The HR Department of the Department of Education has given the Provincial Education Departments directives as to how to proceed with the roll out of the Teacher Laptop Initiative.
The PEDs have the option whether they want to start rolling it out immediately or whether they wait till the next financial year - depending on their budgets. The Initiative will therefore be rolled out over a three year period instead of the initial two years.
The PEDs will send out letters to educators to indicate to them that they may proceed to purchase a laptop. The letters include the form that they need to fill in for application of the Teacher Laptop Allowance. The form specifies what the criteria are for the Laptop Allowance Application.

| 2. Written by Marius Pretorius, on 13-09-2009 10:12 Indeed, the same here in KZN. I have seen a copy of the Application for Laptop Allowance that will be sent out. This has already been passed on to Provincial Education Departments. It is now up to them to do something about it and it seems as though they are dragging their feet. I have spoken to some Education Department officials in KZN and they said that they don't have the budget for it at present. They hope to still implement it during the current financial year. |

, on 22-09-2009 18:35 TLI FRUSTRATION I am teaching in a deep rural Pondoland in the E/Cape. I was moved by the opportunity to get a laptop but feeling jittery at the pace of the government.
